Classic Dutch Luxemotor/Beurtschip in original condition that has not been lengthened or shortened or had the side decks raised. Built by D. BOOT of Alphen a./d. Rijn in 1911, generally considered to be one of the best Dutch builders. Converted below the hatch covers in the 1980’s, to retain the character of a cargo barge and to make a comfortable all year round cruising home. The boat has been completely repainted and varnished externally in the last two years. Available early 2009 or perhaps sooner by arrangement.

Hull and superstructure:

Riveted iron hull and hatch coamings. The hull was built in 8 mm. plate, with the curved bilge plates in 9 mm., and in July 2002 the minimum thickness recorded was 5.1 mm and the maximum was 8.6 mm. The wooden hatch covers have been retained as a roof on the former cargo hold, with 9 opening skylights in Lexan polycarbonate, plus 2 windows and 3 opening portholes. The hatch covers are rendered watertight with a heavy lorry type plasticised canvas.
The fore peak cabin has two opening skylights, the entrance ladder from the fore deck, and two opening portholes – it is linked to the rest of the accommodation via a water-tight door.
Below the aft half of the wheelhouse and the stern deck there is a small cabin with a raised steel entrance hatch and two decklights. Below the front half of the wheelhouse and the terrasse is the engine room with double opening skylight and entrance

Ballast:

There is a layer of concrete blocks throughout the former hold, plus bagged gravel below the fore peak cabin floor. The concrete blocks span the knees rather than being placed between the knees on the bottom plates, where they would have held any dampness.

Engine:

KROMHOUT-GARDNER 6LW diesel, 95 hp at 1350 rpm. These engines were made in Amsterdam by Kromhout under licence from Gardner UK, and thus have all the quality, economy and reputation of the famous Gardner marque. New piston rings, valves, valve guides, springs and seats, and gaskets were fitted in 2003.The cooling is by heat exchanger.

Gearbox:

Commercial duty Lohmann & Stolterfoht oil operated gearbox, type WS 010 with 2.5 : 1 reduction incorporated.

Propeller:

3 blade heavy duty prop, with a spare carried aboard. The prop-shaft and bronze stern-bush were renewed in 1997, and 12 anodes fitted to the hull.

Bow thruster:

None

Steering:

Traditional wooden wheel with Reynolds chain, shaft, and a set of bevel gears in an oil bath. Full 180° movement at the rudder, smooth and light at the wheel.

Generator:

ONAN type 6MD JB, 6.5 kw at 1500 rpm

LEECE-NEVILLE 24 volts x 75 amps, new 2007

Inverter:

VICTRON Phoenix 24 volts x 750 watts, new 2007. Pure sine wave

  • KABOLA pressure-jet boiler in engine room supplying 6 radiators throughout the accommodation. Three of the radiators are antique cast-iron with a striking decoration. The boiler was fitted with a new CUENOD burner unit in 2006.
  • GODIN wood/coal/anthracite solid fuel stove, type BELLE EPOQUE, new 1997 and only used occasionally

Insulation:

Very well insulated throughout with ROCKWOOL

Hot water:

  • 100 litres 220 volt insulated hot tank in pantry, close to bathroom and kitchen
  • Large capacity ELM LEBLANC propane instantaneous water heater, also in pantry

Propane gas:

2 x 13 kg propane bottles in a deck locker with 1st. stage automatic change-over regulator incorporating automatic cut-off. All piping to French standards, plus 2nd. stage regulators with automatic cut-off by each appliance

Cabins:

  • .Large main cabin with double bed over two of the water tanks. Varnished pine board floor. Two wardrobes – one in mahogany, one painted - with hanging space and shelves, bookshelves and small table. Antique heating radiator. En-suite shower. Opening skylight and porthole.
  • Fore peak cabin with entrance via water-tight door from main cabin or via steps from fore-deck. Three-quarter size bed plus a childs bed, Many cupboards and shelves, heating radiator, carpeted floor, two opening skylights + two opening portholes, varnished mahogany ceiling. This is the original crew cabin from the cargo carrying days, and is virtually unchanged
  • The office was originally a cabin and could easily be changed back to one, with two single berths or a double bed. Heating radiator, wardrobe and shelves. Opening skylight and porthole, plus a window. Antique mahogany doors with leaded glass.
  • Additional small cabin below the wheelhouse with a single bunk and a childs bunk, plus cupboards and a full height wardrobe.

Pantry:

Opposite the kitchen, with the hot water tank and propane gas water heater, plus shelving and fittings for a washing machine

Bathroom:

  • Good sized bathroom off main bedroom, with bath-tub over the third water tank, giving it the height to drain overboard without a pump. ITT manual toilet, washbasin on mahogany base, antique mirror, large cupboards, heating radiator & opening skylight
  • Separate tiled shower off main bedroom with opening skylight and porthole. 24 volt automatic drain pump

Saloon:

Large saloon with varnished pine floor. Built-in bookshelves, unit for TV and music, racks for CD’s, GODIN Belle-Epoque solid fuel stove and two antique radiators. 5 opening skylights and a window, plus main entrance from terrasse

Kitchen:

Open plan kitchen with antique oak cupboards, drawers, and work surfaces. Stainless steel double sink, gas cooker with 4 burners plus oven and grille, 220 volts LIEBHERR fridge new 2005, gas/220 volts/12 volts ELECTROLUX fridge with freezer compartment. There is also a freezer, currently in the office.

Office:

The office could easily be re converted into a bedroom, as detailed elsewhere. There is a large built-in working surface and plenty of shelving and power points.

Wheelhouse:

This is the original 1911 teak wheelhouse, that can be lowered by two men in 20 minutes or so. It has doors on both sides and five opening windows. There is a traditional wheel and a dashboard carrying the engine controls and a brass "Kromhout" instrument panel, plus an additional switch panel and a brass compass. There is an upholstered bench seat at the rear that can be used as a single berth, built over the heating oil tank, plus a small teak table. There is a fitted waterproof sheet to cover the wheelhouse base and dashboard etc. when the wheelhouse is lowered, plus a fitted cover to protect the wheelhouse in winter.

Bow and stern decks:

The large bow deck has the fore peak cabin skylight and entrance, plus the anchor winch. The stern deck has the spare prop, access to the steering gear, and the stern anchor winch

Sundeck:

The sundeck terrasse is ahead of the wheelhouse and has the main accommodation entrance, plus a bench seat. There is also a folding pine table and bench for the good weather. This terrasse and the wheelhouse are shaded in summer by a fitted sunshade carried on a frame that is easily dismantled for cruising.
